How active should the CEO be in the recruitment process?

Attracting and retaining top leadership requires more than just a great brand and package. It requires a figurehead behind it who can help shape a compelling employee value proposition (EVP) and clearly communicate it.

Speaking at the Unleash conference in Paris, the deputy CEO of L’Oréal, Barbara Lavernos, described EVP as a “core part” of her business’s strategy. “It begins with a sense of purpose that unites all our colleagues, all our employees, whatever that function,”

Finding the right people is critical. High-calibre talent attracts other high-calibre talent. In a world that increasingly demands a high level of transparency and authenticity, it’s clear that the CEO must communicate what it is about their organisation that can attract the right candidates.

And this means the CEO being hands-on in the hiring process so prospective hires can see and hear the consistent message, including from the very top.
