Many of the searches I handle call for leaders to drive strategy. My immediate response is to ask what I would observe at that company when someone is driving strategy. The findings are revealing…..
In the context of a digital transformation, it appears driving strategy is much more about delivery.
And it’s about delivering smaller wins more regularly. It’s much less about creating the audacious vision because successful digital change is frequently about learning as you go. We don’t have all the answers
And when you’re hiring new digital talent to your business, it’s important to keep those people you want to retain engaged – especially those with deep knowledge of your products and customers. Hiring fresh thinking shouldn’t be a negative indictment on existing team members. It’s about building a complementary set of skills and experience – and this must be clearly communicated to your people
Success in any digital transformation requires collaboration and people feeling connected to the plan, where they can see the impact of their work often. Then driving strategy is the delivery.
